Kim Pruitt / Dawning Art
I like to say that Three Oaks has a lot of texture, and by that, I mean the people! While living here for the past seventeen years I have met so many interesting folks: visitors and residents, makers, performers, poets, farmers, beauty queens, celebrities and those who would like to be! Three Oaks is a unique experience that really cannot be described – just come and see!
While studying art in Colorado years ago, a professor said to me, “the skill of drawing is actually learning to see” – it really pushed me to appreciate subtleties.
As an artist, I focus on the line against a shadow, a vivid color paired with a tone, a soft brush against the brazen. I write a poem that speaks volumes, tells the hidden story that reveals a lifetime of lessons, and the dreams of what could be. When I pay attention to the priestess in me, I recognize what I already know in the depths of my soul, and I create ritual to connect what has fallen away, in hopes of contributing to the healing of the Universe.
To use one’s voice, to speak the truth, these are responsibilities of a rebel, of an artist.
My art is about people, relationships, and the depth of spirit. I will use every color imaginable to tell the story of…the rescuer, the rebel, the hermit, the underdog, the jester, the caregiver, the healer, the destroyer, the child, the prostitute, the lover.
My journey is to continue learning to see, to witness each of our stories, and to speak up for those who may not be in position to use their voices.
