Michiana Humane Society

At the Michiana Humane Society, we enrich our community by giving animals, and the people who love them, a second chance.

About Michiana Humane Society

The Michiana Humane Society has provided second chances for the area’s pets for over 100 years.

Key services include

  • Adopting out dogs, cats, and critters
  • Taking in unwanted pets and strays
  • Humane education for school groups
  • Providing pet food through the Feeding Hope pet food pantry

Our popular Fetch Some Fun program allows people to “check out” a dog for the afternoon, taking the pet for a hike, to a dog-friendly restaurant, or just for a drive in the car.

The shelter also offers services for owned pets including microchipping, and access to our 3-acre dog park by membership

As an independent organization, MHS receives no tax dollars but instead depends on donations from community members as well as the proceeds of fundraising events.

The last Saturday of July our largest benefit, Cocktails at Grand Cottage in New Buffalo takes place.
